Financials

In line with our organizational values, IDHA is committed to transparency about where our resources come from and how they are used.

IDHA incorporated in New York State in 2021 and received independent 501(c)(3) status from the IRS in 2022, following several years of operating under fiscal sponsorship. Below, you’ll find our IRS Form 990 filings, along with a summary of our funding sources and primary expenses.Public Filings

Funding Sources

IDHA’s work is supported through a combination of foundation grants, individual contributions, earned revenue (e.g. from trainings, events, and membership dues), and fundraising events. In recent years, earned revenue has become an increasing share of our budget.

We are actively working toward a more community-sustained funding model – growing income through our programs while seeking multi-year, flexible support from aligned foundations. This blend of institutional and community support helps us stay grounded in our core mission and maintain financial stability in a rapidly changing landscape.

Primary Expenses

IDHA’s budget reflects our commitment to aligning our spending with our values. Our primary expenses include:

  • Staff salaries and benefits

  • Honoraria for faculty and facilitators with lived and professional expertise who collaborate with IDHA as independent contractors

  • Consultant payments to support organizational development, with a focus on anti-oppression, accessibility, and conflict transformation

  • Access services such as ASL interpretation and CART captioning

  • Technology and platform subscriptions that power our virtual infrastructure

  • Accreditation costs so mental health providers can receive CEUs for our trainings

  • Program outreach and marketing to expand our reach and engage new communities

  • Administrative, legal, and compliance costs, including accounting and insurance

Accountability

IDHA’s Board of Directors holds ultimate fiduciary oversight of the organization. Within the Board, a dedicated Finance & Fundraise Committee supports sustainable fundraising efforts by shaping strategy and providing oversight of our financial health. The committee also plays a key role in monitoring our operations and supporting long-term planning.

Gratitude

Every gift to IDHA, no matter the size, makes a meaningful impact on our ability to continue this work. We are honored to be supported by a mix of individual donors (including through the Equalizing Access Giving Circle) and institutional funders who share our commitment to building a rights-based, peer-centered, and holistic approach to mental health.

Whether through a grant, a training or event registration, a membership fee, or a one-time donation, your support sustains our programs and helps us grow in alignment with our values. Together, we are working to shift dominant narratives and practices toward care, autonomy, and collective liberation.
